Skateboarding - Days of old
Well it was fun while it lasted and kept me a little younger a little longer but I'm sad to say - this page is now just here for the memories...
Images and Videos are at the bottom of the page for those who are too lazy to read the story.
This is how the story went
In my final year at university I got into skateboarding because I was bored with pubs and clubs and more to the point, I was skint!
Flatmates at uni: Guy, and Henry.
Neither Henry, Guy nor I could skateboard, we couldn't Nollie, and we couldn't do any other tricks either! - but we tried anyway. It all started with a minature skateboard for 3 quid at Asda (Guy and I split the high cost). Henry and I got so good (read "bad") that we thought it was time to progress to the real thing. We bought the cheapest boards we could get our hands on (35 quid) and started to... well... er... actually we just started to fall off more often. Never detered by the falls we continued in our quest for skateboarding greatness. We continued to be useless at it but it was once a cheap Friday or Saturday night!
Since uni
Since leaving uni I have been skating with a programming buddy (John) at lunch times and we're finally getting somewhere. I think it takes us longer to learn tricks than the kids you see skating about because we've got jobs where we need our hands to remain in an unbroken state (programming).
The videos marked with (uni) are from my final year at uni. The others are --- SHOCK HORROR --- NEW ones since I left uni.
We're going down to Southsea Skatepark on the 30th of July 2005 and we will be taking video footage of it so you can finally expect more skateboarding video clips to become available on this site soon after that.
Southsea Update: (03/08/2005)
Southsea was pretty neat but we couldn't get in to the skatepark on the front because Henners has a fat head and they couldn't find a helmet that fitted him. The rules are such that you must wear at least a crash nut so we couldn't go in. Instead we went to the new park at milton park which is only about 5 minutes drive North from the Southsea park.
Southsea Update: (06/10/2005)
Here are the pictures from the Southsea skate (plus a few at the end at Southwick (near Brighton))... The videos will follow when we've converted them from 3gp to mpeg format.

Southsea Update: (23/11/2005)
Well we finally got round to converting the videos only to realise that they were huge so we've put them back to 3gp format. I recommend you download QuickTime from Apple if you haven't done so already because otherwise you probably won't be able to view *.3gp files. I think RealPlayer has a plugin for this now too.
